AssureID concepts
AssureID automates the capture and classification of identity documents for authentication. This process captures information about a document’s physical layout and security features, then compares the document metadata (the descriptive information about a document) to the metadata contained in the AssureID Document Library.
The metadata includes information about the document, such as where in a captured image to search for specific color characteristics, small pattern images, or regions containing data. It also includes specific properties such as colors, physical relationships, data formats, and patterns that uniquely identify the document and allow reliable data extraction. The metadata includes the necessary parameters for optical character recognition (OCR) and image processors that are used to perform the specific tasks necessary to capture, classify, and authenticate the document. AssureID can classify both standard International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) documents and non-standard documents, including passports, driver’s licenses, and voter ID cards.
The AssureID process includes the following major steps:
- Capture - Creates an initial color image of the document using a white light source (required) of the front side of the document. Other images may be captured using either visible, near-infrared (NIR), ultraviolet (UVA), or coaxial light, depending on the device. Unlock, read, and capture data contained in magstripe, MRZ, or contactless chip, if present.
- Classify - Examines the specific images and patterns on a document and compare to the over 6,600 document types in the AssureID Document Library database to determine the document type.
- Extract - Extracts biographic and other data from the document.
- Authenticate - Runs a series of authentication tests using a complete set of images and data.
