The process of authentication can be completed independent of any connectivity. The connectivity requirements and any associated traffic needed for higher level features are highly variable:

• Updates are released sporadically and can take up to 1 GB in traffic
• Statistical management information is less than 10 MB a day
• Live synchronization of textual data can be up to 50 kb per scan
• Live synchronization of image data can be up to 5 mb per scan

The synchronization can be live (at the time of scanning) or on a delayed synchronization overnight.
