Guidance on making the best use of the engine

To make the most of the GBG IDscan Face Match engine and to be able to achieve dependable results, GBG IDscan advises that some control is imposed on the captured of images that are fed into the engine. Please the following guidelines are recommended:

  • The facial images should be taken from the front (that is, the person should be looking directly towards the camera). Images that are in profile won’t be able to be matched properly because many of the facial features won’t be visible. Better results are achieved if the subject does not have their face at an angle.
  • The facial features in both images should be clear. Faces should not be obstructed by foreign objects and should be taken in good light conditions.
  • If a subjects photo is taken from an Identity Document, it should not have a high level of glare or be excessively affected by tampering protection mechanisms. It’s good to advise users to take images at an angle that reduces the reflected glare in the area of the face.
  • The images should not use excessively lossy compression levels (in case of JPEG images) that might affect the detail in the images.
